CEEEstonia's ERR to boycott Paralympic events with Russian and Belarusian athletes
Estonia's public broadcaster ERR has announced it will not broadcast competitions at the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina that include Russian and Belarusian athletes competing under their national flags.
Six Russian and four Belarusian athletes are set to participate after the International Paralympic Committee lifted its suspension, which had been imposed following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. ERR’s Head of Sports, Rivo Saarna, said the broadcaster “unequivocally condemns the normalization of aggressor states through sport and the Olympic movement” and opposes the decision to allow participation under national flags. However, ERR currently plans to air the opening and closing ceremonies, while informing viewers about the background of the decision. Saarna added that the issue is also being discussed among other members of the European Broadcasting Union, and further restrictions remain possible depending on collective decisions. The 2026 Winter Paralympics will take place in Italy from March 6 to 15. RELATED
