CEEAnother Ukrainian journalist killed in combat
Bohdan Zayats, journalist with the communal TV channel Novyi Chernihiv and UAF serviceman, was killed in action on January 30, 2025, the channel reported in a Facebook post on July 14.
The search for Bohdan Zayats and the official death confirmation process lasted several months. Bohdan died in a Russian shelling strike on Ukrainian army positions in Donetsk oblast. Novyi Chernihiv director Natalia Levochko told the IMI regional coordinator Pavlo Pushchenko that Bohdan Zayats had worked at the TV channel since August 2016, starting as a news anchor. The media worker was drafted in September 2023 as deputy head of the TV news team. “There are no words that could convey the pain of a heavy loss. Bodya, that’s what our team called you. Real about everything. Kind, smart, true to yourself and to your principles. You never stopped and helped produce reporting from Chernihiv while the city was under siege. When the time came, you went to serve without hesitation. You forbade us to report on you getting wounded. You never complained about difficulties. You loved your parents incredibly. You never refused when someone needed support or help. You are in our hearts forever,” the channel’s message says. According to the Institute of Mass Information, Bohdan Zayats is the 108th media worker to die in the course of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. RELATED
