Armenia limits terrestrial distribution of foreign channels
 07 Aug 2020
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian signed a law limiting public multiplex distribution for foreign broadcasters. The law also requires foreign-language media content to be either subtitled or dubbed. The chairman of Armenia's National Commission on Television and Radio, Tigran Hakobyan, said that the legislation was guided by information security concerns.

Interfax reports that the restrictions also apply to Russian channels. It adds that the law legislation, entitled On Audiovisual Media, was passed by the Armenian parliament and envisages that foreign channels will only be able to be distributed without a license on a public multiplex on the basis of an interstate agreement between Armenia and another country.
